The tools that teachers had to help them were once limited to chalkboards and VCRs but now you can get a selection of tools on your phone. These apps can make taking care of daily lessons even easier than before and as long as you have your phone then you will have all the teaching help you need. Take a look at these 7 iPhone apps that every teacher needs.

Omnifocus

Omnifocus allows you to plan out all your tasks for the day. Any list of goals or discussion points can be carried on your iPhone using this app, keeping you on track and focused. Few things help a day go more smoothly than a high level of organization.

Dexy

Dexy helps you to organize and have access to all your notes at all times. This app is perfect for quick little notes on things that pop into your head in the course of a day or longer notes to help you remember details for class. For anyone with a less than perfect memory, this app can help take some of the pressure off.

WeDict

WeDict is a dictionary right on your iPhone. While for some grade levels you may know every word your students do, with this app you can always give a clear, accurate answer when a student asks a meaning of the word. This is ideal because you want to teach right when they ask and while their curiosity is piqued.

Date Wheel

Date Wheel allows you to manage the due dates of all those assignments you hand out. You can even start a countdown so that you can remind your students, and yourself, how much time is left before a certain assignment is due or until a noteworthy event like an exam. This helps you keep everyone in the know.

Ifbyphone

Ifbyphone is one way to collaborate with all your students at once. For any teacher looking to get a whole class to work together even outside of the classroom, this app is a keeper. You can teach a subject and teach teamwork skills at the same time.

Classics

Classics is an app that lets your read many of the literary classics right on your iPhone. You can share the works of literary giants without having to carry one of their famous tomes around all day. This is even more helpful if you want or need to be able to read from multiple classic works on the same day.

Poptiq

Poptiq is the app for teachers looking for access to educational videos. You can use these videos to brush up on facts yourself or you can look to them to get ideas for how to present materials to your classes in new and exciting ways. The videos that you find here are sure to help you breathe new life into every class.

These are 7 iPhone apps that every teacher needs. You can keep track of your own schedule and help your students to keep track of theirs while sharing all the knowledge you want. Your phone could make teaching easier and more exciting for you and your students.

J Amos writes about how to apply to the best universities online.

If, like me, you’re terrible about keeping in touch with old friends, you need more than just a contact manager. You need a noodge, something that will harass you about dropping a line to your college roommate or your ex-boss. Zentact does that, but not without some work from you. First you have to import your contacts, and then you must tag them with their interests (that’s the only laborintensive part). Then, as you browse the Web, Zentact suggests pages that one or more of your friends might be interested in. If a friend is looking for a job, for example, and you browse to a job board, Zentact will recommend e-mailing that person a note with the link, making the process almost automatic

Slacker launched as an Internet radio service with a difference: It also sold MP3-player devices that could stream the radio service. But most people have another device in their pockets that can do the job—a cell phone. With the launch of Slacker’s iPhone and BlackBerry applications, you can get the same lineup of stations, such as Classic Jazz or ’70s Hits. The apps also allow you to search for an artist and fi nd stations dedicated to that performer and related musicmakers. It’s a great way to get music—but beware of what it will do to your phone’s battery life.
